Our initiative is a career fair that is geared towards youth from racialized communities. This fair will allow them to connect them with professionals that come from similar backgrounds. They will be given resources to help them navigate the education system as they enter post-secondary. It will also include two workshops to teach the youth about skills such as money and time management. The event will be by racialized youth for racialized youth. It will take place on November 16th, 2019 in Ottawa.
In their words: “Success is having every youth that came to the event leave feeling empowered and confident in their ability to pursue their professional goals and succeed. This initiative is extremely important because although we perceive ourselves to be living in a post-racial society, we still have a ways to go. It is important that Canada’s youth do not feel as though they are inferior because of their race. By attending the Career Fair, they will be introduced to individuals who were once in their positions and succeeded.”
